EUTHANASIA

EUTHANASIA
Hello dear reader, I welcome you to today's edition of the youth corner, we know it has been a long time, but please, sit back, relax and enjoy the new goodies we have brought back for you. In today's edition, we will be talking about Euthanasia, it's meaning, 'advantages', disadvantages, moral view and the view of the church.
Euthanasia is simply mercy-killing. According to the 7th edition of the Oxford dictionary, it is the practice of killing without pain. Most times, it is to save dying people from miserable death and offer them a quick way. It is illegal in most countries, even here in Nigeria, why?, Because it is also a form of 'assisted suicide'. Like I said earlier, let's talk about the so-called 'advantages', most writers prefer to leave this out because it is not so real, but I won't so that you will have reasons to believe every other word in this article. An advantage is that it saves patient from going through worse pains that break the hearts of family members. But is it really worth it?, We will talk about that later on.
Disadvantages include knowing the fact that you have just partaken in murder, going against both civic and religious laws, pricking of conscience and so on.
Moral view: Although illegal, alot of people all over the world and even here in Nigeria practice it, this is a punishable offense under the law as it involves taking of live which is the first  Fundamental Human Right in our Constitution.
The View of the Church: In this part, dear reader, permit me to quote the book launched by our Archbishop a few weeks back, titled: 'A Catechism on Human Life: From Conception to NATURAL DEATH' A part there tells us that we do not have the right to die because none of us is master over life or death. Funny right?, Many of us think we can control our life, but do we really??. Better still, let me remind you of something we say in this Lenten season, our response at the twelfth station of the Cross, we say: *Lord Jesus, what can I say or do?, I offer you my death, I accept now the time and kind of death in store for me, I offer you my death for my own sins and that of all my fellow men*. My question is, do we really say this with all our hearts?, Or we just mumble the words and lie about it?, I see no reason why we shouldn't be able to accept the kind of death in stock for us, no pain is greater than what Christ suffered before he died, can you imagine the stressful journey to Calvary?, The beating from the soldiers, the crown of thorns pressing is head, or very big nails being hammered in his wrists, what greater pain is there?.
Dear reader, I believe you have learnt a little about Euthanasia. Let us pray that God should give us the strength to imitate Christ at all given points of our life, Amen. Have a blessed week and watch out for the next edition.
